The Wetlands

CirceoCasaMare - Main routes

The Park wetlands are represented by the costal lakes (Paola, Caprolace, Monaci and Fogliano), by marshes and humid grasslands, where semi-wild water buffaloes graze.
The lakes are more like coastal lagoons, of brackish shallow water. They are connected to the sea by a series of canals which provide a change of water.
The major attraction of the wetland is surely the waterfowl, which, in spring and autumn, flock to the lagoons, marshes and fields, and as many as 250 different species have been counted. Binoculars and a good field guide are the best instruments for easy birdwatching.
The bicycle is the ideal means to move silently along the wetlands.
